About me……

Terence Ruffle, the author of this blog, died on 3 October 2020 after an illness which lasted for about a year. He was 63. The rest of this page is the “About me” page he wrote some years ago. This site will remain in place as long as I can maintain it, as it has material which is potentially useful to some people. I will moderate any comments which may be posted on existing articles.

Well, here we are, January 2015, and in the words of ol’ Jerry Lee “thank God I’m still alive!” The site has had almost 120,000 hits and has over 10,000 subscribers, an amazing audience, thank you so much people! I continue to be inspired by the wonderful world we live in: it’s even stranger than it was 6 years and 4 months ago, when I first started writing.

As Lou Reed once said ” My God is Rock’n’Roll. It’s an obscure power that can change your life. The most important part of my religion is to play guitar”.

I don’t just play Rock’n’Roll, I am Rock’n’Roll!

Thank you friends

It’s been two years and seven months since I started writing this blog. Over that period of time I’ve garnered over 30,000 hits. I can’t believe it! Thank you all so much!
For the most part, it’s come pretty easily to me. With excellent advice from my dear old mate Will Kemp, and inspiration from my brilliant and amazing family, not to mention my own pretty far out existence, it’s been a gas.
Whilst the performing aspect of live music is less of a feature in my life nowadays ( tho’ don’t let that stop you from giving me a gig! ) music remains my number one passion. Plus, any other random subject I see fit to write about will spill into the literary gumbo too.
Peace, love, and Rock’n’Roll,
Play on!

My name is Terence Alfred Ruffle. I’ve been singing for a little over 30 years now. I started singing solo in November 2007. Over the years, it’s been my great priviledge to sing with a number of fabulous bands, the Accidents, the Flying Heroes, the Gene Tryp, thee Exploding Clocks, the Sniffs, thee Light Brigade, and the Surf Rats.

I’ve worked with some brilliant musicians, Paul Sullivan, Mark Robins, Nick Fisher, Carl Seager, Kelvin Pratt, Ben Newton, Jem Penny, Ian Linge and many others. I’ve sung in the UK, Europe and the USA. Whilst the Surf Rats are still continuing their non stop World tour, these days the bulk of my gigs are solo.

This site will hopefully not only give you a good insight into my solo shows, but also an insight into lovely ME!

I can tailor my sets to your requirements, however my specialities are the 60’s and the 70’s. I can also do a complete set of the songs of David Bowie. And I’ve recently started singing songs from the Rat Pack, and crooners from the 60’s, Engelbert Humperdink and Tony Christie to name but two.
Here’s some audio bites of my solo demos.

And here’s a little vid Will shot, at the Mill Beach “Chill at the Mill” on the 26th of May, 2008, featuring Ben Newton on lead guitar. Terence unplugged!

And a vid of the Surf Rats from April the 11th 2009

There’s lots more videos of Terence and the Surf Rats on Youtube, enjoy!
